Use ChatGPT to organise a haircut conversation: describe what you want, ask for three options with reasons and maintenance trade-offs, then turn the shortlist into questions for your stylist.

A prompt for a structured haircut conversation

If image upload is available in your ChatGPT account, attach a clear, front-facing photo in even light. Add your current hair length, natural texture, preferred styling time and any styles you want to keep or avoid. A photo alone cannot reliably establish all of these.

Help me prepare for a haircut consultation. I have attached a front-facing photo. Treat your observations as estimates, not precise measurements or a professional assessment. 1. OBSERVE. Describe the visible forehead, cheekbones, jawline and face length. Say what the angle, lighting or hair prevents you from seeing. Do not infer hidden hair texture, density or growth patterns. 2. SUGGEST A SHAPE. If useful, suggest an approximate face-shape category with low, medium or high confidence. If two categories fit, explain the overlap. Do not treat any face shape as a flaw to fix. 3. COMPARE THREE OPTIONS. Suggest a familiar option, a low-maintenance option and a bolder option. For each, give the length, fringe or parting, a reason linked to the visible features and my preferences, likely upkeep, and what my stylist must check. Name one style that may conflict with my stated goals and explain why. 4. ASK BEFORE CONCLUDING. What do you still need to know about my current length, curl pattern, styling routine or growth patterns? Do not assume a haircut is achievable now from the photo alone. 5. WRITE A SALON BRIEF. After I answer, summarise my two preferred options and the questions I should ask my stylist. Keep the final choice open to an in-person assessment.

The structure makes the advice easier to check: observations come before a label, each suggestion has a reason, and missing information stays visible. It is a suggested prompt, not the result of a published accuracy test.

How to judge advice and image previews

If image editing is available, you can ask ChatGPT to change only the hairstyle while retaining the face, expression, pose and lighting. Check the result against the original. The same checks apply to a dedicated hairstyle app, including HairMatch AI.

Identity: did the eyes, nose, jaw, skin or expression change?
Requested haircut: did the length, fringe, parting and silhouette match your request?
Hair feasibility: does the result assume more length, density or a different texture than you have?
Repeatability: if you choose to generate again, does the second result support the same decision? Additional generations may cost money.
Advice quality: can you trace each recommendation to your stated goals and visible evidence, or is it making unsupported assumptions?
